SAPC to honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela

2018 marks the centenary of the birth of South Africa’s first democratically elected president, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. As we are reminded of his contribution to humanity through initiatives such as the Nelson Mandela International Day, which was proclaimed by the United Nations in 2009, we ought to find it incumbent upon ourselves to uplift those less fortunate than ourselves whenever possible. After all, it is Nelson Mandela himself who once said “overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice”.
In honour of his legacy and on behalf of the pharmacy profession, the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) will on Friday, 17 August 2018 uplift the children of Wozanibone Secondary School by donating sanitary towels, toiletries, school shoes, socks, beanies, stationery and food items. Repairs to school property will take place throughout the day; which will include the painting of classrooms, gates, the installation of a security fence around the feeding scheme garden and the repairing of classroom doors.
In addition, in the near future the SAPC will be launching a campaign aimed at boosting the morale and dignity of needy school children across the country who may require assistance, particularly in the form of sanitary towels and school shoes. The campaign will call on the pharmacy profession, as a vital and caring member of every community across the country, to take an active role in paving the way to eradicate the impact of poverty in communities where we serve – one school child at a time.
