Registrar Amos Masango contemplates the successes and challenges of a very busy 2016, and expresses his gratitude to the profession for their ongoing support. He savours the excellent accomplishments of the industry professionals who were recognised at the 2016 National Pioneer Pharmacy Awards, and conveys his satisfaction at the outcome of the 2nd National Pharmacy Conference.
The year 2016 has come and gone. This was a year not to forget, especially the build up to the 2nd National Pharmacy Conference, which many expected would surpass the extremely successful first conference in 2013. The year also saw interesting developments in issues relating to education and training, pharmacy practice and preregistration for interns. This is the last e-Pharmaciae for the year so please sit back and enjoy the read.
2nd National Pharmacy Conference
We wish to extend a huge thank you to all those who participated in the 2016 conference and making it a momentous occasion. Over 1000 delegates attended the conference, which boasted top national and international speakers. Minister of Health Dr Aaron Motsoaledi delivered the keynote address at the official opening, and Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan and Deputy Mayor of Ethekwini Metro Cllr Fawzia Peer spoke on issues of topical interest. The MEC for Health in KwaZulu-Natal, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, was also present to welcome the Minister of Health. This e-Pharmaciae edition and future editions will reflect some of the profound key note addresses and presentations delivered at the conference.
‘Evening with the Stars’
The ‘Evening with the Stars’ gala dinner was held at the Durban ICC on Saturday, 22 October, where industry professionals from both the private and public sectors were awarded for excellence in pharmacy. To our sponsors, a big thank you for your generosity and making this conference such a great success. Insightful recommendations came out of discussions at the conference and the Office will start acting on some of them as early as next year.
