We wish to say thank you to the pharmacy profession for a truly remarkable and wonderful 2014. The swiftly passing year has been filled with many accomplishments, lasting memories and, unfortunately, a few unfulfilled goals. In February we introduced the new council, which wasted no time in unveiling a new vision, mission and values, and releasing the all-important 2014–2018 Strategic Plans. Council has paved the way for their term of office, a tremendous thought to consider when looking forward to and welcoming 2015.
Many people use the New Year to ditch old habits and make a fresh start. With the new council firmly in place, and a new year rapidly approaching, we are more than ready to adopt new attitudes and deal with the challenges facing the profession! We hope you are all on board to help us grow pharmacy to greater heights.
e-Pharmaciae
Council is proudly introducing this publication, the 1st e-Pharmaciae, to the profession. This innovative idea of communication via electronic media is in line with Council’s strategy on automation and saving trees – we are serious about going green!
The good news for our readers is we hope to increase our publications to a minimum of six editions a year. We will report more frequently on Council activities, amendments to legislation, standards, and related information affecting the pharmacy profession. The e-Pharmaciae is expected to go beyond the ‘’post-office strike’’ and reach you in time.
World AIDS Day
World AIDS Day is held annually on 1 December. It is an opportunity for us as a profession to unite in the fight against HIV, show support for people living with HIV and remember those who have died from the disease. It also allows us time to reflect and rejoice in victories such as increased access to treatment and prevention services.
World AIDS Day is an international health day to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS and it reminds us of the challenges we continue to face as we fight this scourge. Stop AIDS and strengthen the patient-pharmacist relationship. Many people still do not know how to protect themselves and others from HIV, and stigma and discrimination remain a reality for people living with HIV.
HIV is far from being eradicated – there is still a vital need to raise money, increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education. Let World Aids Day remind us of the important role we need to play as a profession.
Annual Report
The 2013 Annual Report is available on the website www.sapc.za.org . This comprehensive report on the activities of Council during the year under review demonstrates our transparency to our stakeholders who are, without doubt, part of our wellbeing as an organisation. The report is very enlightening and focuses on the 2013 activities and the achievements of the previous council.
Joyful festive season to everyone
With the holiday season upon us our thoughts turn gratefully to those who have made our progress possible. It is in this spirit that we say…Thank you and best wishes for the holidays, and a happy New Year.
We hope you enjoy our first edition of e-Pharmaciae.
Kind regards,
Amos Masango
