Extension to offer qualifications for pharmacists’ assistants is granted until 30 June 2018
To accommodate the implementation of the new qualifications for mid-level workers, Council requested and obtained permission from the Quality Council for Trades and Occupation (QCTO) to extend the date of enrollment of new, prospective learners and existing learners for the basic and post-basic pharmacist’s assistant qualifications to 30 June 2018. The learners will have until 30 June 2021 to complete their studies.
NB: PLEASE NOTE THAT THE COUNCIL DECISION STILL HOLDS, THAT IS, ONCE A LEARNER REGISTERS FOR THE QUALIFICATION, LEARNING MUST BE COMPLETED IN 30 MONTHS
The new expiry date has also been extended to include those who are already registered for the qualification. Upcoming students who want to enroll for the pharmacist’s assistant qualification are reminded that there are certain requirements they must fulfill before they are accepted.
- To register and practice the scope of a basic pharmacist’s assistant you are required to complete the National Certificate: Pharmacist Assistance qualification.
- To register and practice the scope of a post-basic pharmacist’s assistant you are required to complete the Further Education and Training Certificate: Pharmacist Assistance qualification.
These two qualifications were due to expire on 30 June 2015 (National Certificate: Pharmacist Assistance) and 30 June 2016 (Further Education and Training Certificate: Pharmacist Assistance).
The last date of enrollment for the basic or post-basic pharmacist’s assistant qualification with providers and Council is 30 June 2018. Learners who register on or before 30 June 2018, and those who are already registered, must complete the qualification by 30 June 2021.
