National Pharmacy Week acknowledges the invaluable contributions the pharmacy profession makes to patient care in all healthcare settings by ensuring the safe and effective use of medication. Pharmacists across the country participated in a variety of activities to promote the profession under the 2016 theme Use Medicine Safely. The Office received delightful reports and photos showing some of the celebrations.

National Pharmacy Week 2016 took place between 5 and 11 September under the theme Use Medicine Safely. The profession rose to the occasion with flair and festivity, savouring the opportunity to promote the beneficial role they play in the health and wellbeing of the population.

Posters and pamphlets, developed jointly by the National Department of Health (NDoH), the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC), the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA) and the Systems for Improved Access to Pharmaceuticals and Services (SIAPS), are available in English and eight of the official languages.

The Office of the Registrar would like to thank members for the numerous National Pharmacy Week participation reports showing pharmacy professionals reaching out to their communities, schools and patients.

Additional stories on the 2016 National Pharmacy Week activities will be shared in forthcoming Council publications.
